More than Massages: Beauty and Wellness Services That Are Cheaper in Batam

Batam is famous among Malaysians for one thing: affordable massages.

But once you really know the island, you’ll realise Batam’s wellness scene goes far beyond just a simple massage. Look slightly past the massage promos and you’ll find advanced skincare treatments, Indonesian hair rituals and even dental care.

And the best part? Many of these treatments cost significantly less than what you’d pay in Malaysia.

So if you’re already hopping on a ferry from Berjaya Waterfront, here are some wellness services worth adding to your Batam itinerary.

1. Routine dental care (Scaling, Polishing, and Teeth Whitening)

Here’s one thing no one would think of getting in Batam… dental care.

Dental clinics in Batam offer professional services and modern equipment comparable to many private dental clinics in Malaysia. Yet, routine dental scaling and polishing here can cost as little as RM30 to RM80, which is significantly cheaper than what you’d be paying back home.

Beyond basic cleaning, teeth whitening treatments - including laser or LED-assisted whitening - are also more affordable here, typically ranging from RM600 to RM1,100. However, avoid treatments that require multiple sessions unless you plan to visit Batam a lot.

It’s only in Batam where you’d come back from your holiday with a genuinely brighter smile.

2. Ratus V-Spa Treatment

This is one for the ladies, so that’s an obvious clue as to what the “V” stands for.

Ratus is a women’s intimate wellness ritual involving herbal steam infused with traditional ingredients such as sirih leaves, roots, spices, and lemongrass. These treatments are believed to help reduce discharge, eliminate odours and itches, and increase elasticity.

The treatment is deeply tied to Indonesian beauty and wellness culture, and is commonly offered at spas throughout Batam. While you can find this in Malaysia, they are often niche and considerably more expensive.

At around RM45 to RM90, it’s an affordable cultural wellness experience that feels both relaxing and uniquely local - especially if you’re on a girls’ trip.

3. Hair Creambath and hair spas

This is more than just a hair wash. In fact, if there’s one truly Indonesian beauty treatment that deserves legendary status, it’s the hair creambath.

Traditional Indonesian creambaths involve thick botanical hair masks made from ingredients like avocado, aloe vera, or ginseng being applied generously to the hair before a long, luxurious head, neck, and shoulder massage. The treatment is usually paired with steaming to help the nutrients absorb more effectively.

The result is equal parts hair treatment and accidental nap session.

In Batam, creambath treatments typically cost between RM50 to RM100 for a high-end spa experience lasting up to 90 minutes, compared to RM200 - RM300 for a similar experience in Malaysia.

Considering Batam’s humid weather, beach trips, and constant exposure to sun and seawater, it’s also the perfect way to rescue your hair before heading back home looking suspiciously more refreshed than usual.

4. Aesthetic facials

Batam’s aesthetic clinics and upscale wellness centres have also become increasingly popular among beauty-conscious travellers looking for advanced facials without advanced Malaysian prices.

Many clinics in Batam offer high-tech aesthetic treatments inspired by Korean skincare trends, including glass skin facials, silk infusions, oxygen facials, and hydration-focused resurfacing treatments. These often utilise professional-grade equipment such as microdermabrasion machines, galvanic currents, or oxygen sprayers alongside concentrated serums.

Pair this with a teeth-whitening session and a hair creambath, and you’ll come home a whole new person!

5. Gel nail art and premium manicures

From minimalist Korean-inspired designs to elaborate glitter-heavy Japanese-style gel art, Batam’s nail technicians are known for detailed work at highly competitive prices.

Elaborate gel nail sets can become painfully expensive very quickly — especially once you start adding charms, gradients, chrome finishes, cat-eye effects, or enough glitter to release a Mariah Carey album.

A full gel manicure or premium nail art session typically ranges between RM30 to RM150, depending on complexity and extensions. Most nail salons are located in malls, so you can easily compare prices and services.

Look and feel like a million Ringgit (but pay a million Rupiah) in Batam
