Batam probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind when you think of craft beer.
But perhaps that’s part of the fun.
Beyond the familiar bottles of Bintang you’ll find across the island, Batam has a small but surprisingly varied beer scene, from Indonesian craft brews to freshly tapped lagers to a green beer you’re going to suddenly remember during your next Marvel movie.
And because this is Batam, the pint is rarely the whole experience. You might find yourself drinking one alongside a wood-fired steak, watching a live band in a gastropub, catching the sunset from a hilltop, or wondering whether you’re brave enough to order crocodile with your next round.
So if your idea of a Batam weekend involves something cold and frothy after all that shopping and eating, here are four places worth raising a glass to.
1. Freshbeer Batam Centre: For Beer With a Side of Adventure

Close to Batam Centre Ferry Terminal, Freshbeer has been one of Batam’s recognisable beer destinations for years. Walk in and you’ll find silver brewing tanks, wooden kegs and an industrial aesthetic that feels like you’ve stumbled across a little microbrewery.
However, despite the brewery-like appearance, Freshbeer today is better thought of as a speciality draft beer house rather than a conventional on-site craft brewery. Its speciality is freshly tapped, unpasteurised beer, served icy cold in frozen steins, pitchers or tabletop beer towers.
There are house lagers and dark beers, but the drink everyone is going to ask you about afterwards is the Green Beer. Its striking emerald colour comes with a subtle herbal sweetness from ingredients such as pandan and spirulina.
Freshbeer also serves Indonesian dishes and seafood alongside more adventurous choices. Depending on availability, you may find meats such as crocodile or deer on the menu.
With indoor and outdoor seating, live music and well… memorable menu items, it’s an easy first or last stop if you’re travelling through Batam Centre.
2. Arch Alley: When Your Beer Raises the Steaks

Not every beer night needs sticky tables and a football match playing in the background. Arch Alley takes things in the opposite direction.
Think Angus steaks, skirt steak, New Zealand lamb and wood-fired pizzas served alongside familiar lagers, craft beers, and IPAs that pair beautifully with each other. Evenings can also feature live acoustic performances, giving Arch Alley a more relaxed dinner-and-drinks atmosphere than the traditional pub experience.
The two-storey, European-inspired space features warm brick interiors, an alfresco terrace and even a private wine cellar room. Its drinks programme extends far beyond beer too, with handcrafted cocktails and a wine collection reportedly spanning more than 100 labels from around the world.
3. d’Nest Bar & Grill: Beer With a View

Situated around the elevated Vista Hotel area along Jalan Gajah Mada, d’Nest Bar & Grill trades the bustle of central Batam for greener surroundings, cooler evening breezes and panoramic views.
The drinks menu has leaned into craft-style beers more than the average Batam bar, with styles such as IPAs, Weissbier, porters, Vienna lagers and brown ales appearing among its selections. Happy-hour offers and beer packages can make it an appealing stop if you’re visiting as a group.
Food follows the same hearty philosophy: grilled steaks, Wagyu sets, skewers, pizzas and familiar Western bar favourites built for pairing with something cold. Once night falls, regular acoustic performances shift the atmosphere from sunset drinks towards a cosy evening hangout.
