In Batam, you’ll have no shortage of activities - from shopping and sightseeing to beach-hopping. All that takes energy, so you may find yourself looking for food and coffee in between.

So why not feed both your tummy and your senses?

Batam is full of cafés that serve up not just great food and drinks, but unforgettable views and vibes too. Some are even attractions in their own right. Here are five cafés you absolutely shouldn’t miss on your next trip:

1. De’Sands Café and Restaurant

Inspired by the iconic white-washed buildings and blue domes of Santorini, De’Sands offers a slice of Greece right in Batam.

The walled compound fully immerses you the moment you walk in, where you’ll be greeted with garden arches. These arches lead into a wide layered space centred around a mini amphitheatre!

The ample outdoor seating subtly encourages you to enjoy your meals and drinks al fresco, although there is an indoor section with air-conditioning available. The menu includes local, western, and mediterranean fare. Keep an eye out for their regular specials and promos too.

The multi-layered structures aren’t just for show - you can climb a few flights of stairs for photos at the domes or a breathtaking view of the Batam skyline. We recommend going in the evening for beautiful sunset views and live musical performances at the amphitheatre.

2. Rubeka Rumah Pamer dan Kopi

Tucked away at the edge of Batam’s city centre, Rubeka is an unassuming café nestled right in the middle of a row of shoplots. However, don’t be surprised if you’re met with a queue!

There are three reasons for its popularity with locals and tourists: Great coffee, great food, and a unique concept that you won’t find anywhere else in Batam - a café-meets-vintage flea market.

Fronted by friendly staff, Rubeka offers many cosy nooks and rooms that are filled with antiques, vintage toys, clothing, and other second-hand treasures. Each space offers a unique aesthetic, giving you many spots that are perfect for photos. Many of the items are also available for sale.

The cafe is known for their delicious Indonesian-style coffee, along with a wide selection of reasonably-priced snacks and mains.

Want to live your Barbie Movie fantasy? Hop into your (imaginary) pink convertible and drive over to Berjaya Waterfront right now! In just 90 minutes, you’ll be lounging on a pink beach!

Despite the name, Blue Fire is a beach club that features a pink beach. It’s a manmade section next to the real ocean with pink sand, pink deck chairs, and pink beanbag sofas - perfect for IG photos that’ll make your friends pink with envy!

Pink isn’t your thing? Don’t worry, there’s more. Blue Fire also features a pool with a viewing deck and poolside bar, and cabanas on natural beach sand. Come nightfall, Bluefire turns on party mode with dance tunes, ambient lights, and (sometimes) live DJs.

While cocktails best fit the ambiance, Blue Fire Beach Club also serves a bevy of non-alcoholic drinks, main courses, and beachside finger foods such as the Blue Fire Platter and Snack Platter.

4. Dolyn Cafe

This is for anyone who grew up in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Dolyn Cafe is a cute little eatery that celebrates all things Doraemon. If you love the blue robot cat from the future, this is the cafe you wish you went to as a kid!

Dolyn’s decor appears as something straight out of a manga or anime, with Japanese-style booths, Go ceiling pattern, and a vibrant blue-and-white theme accented with pink.

The highlight, though, is the recreation of Nobita’s room that’s perfect for photos. Just don’t be disappointed if Doraemon doesn’t pop out of the drawer.

As you might expect, the menu is mostly Japanese; with familiar favourites like curry rice, dorayaki, and donburi.

Perfectly situated along Batam Gold Coast, Next Level is a cafe and bar on the beach with a pier that extends out into the sea.

Occupying its own private beach lot, seating is airy and spacious. You’ll also get most of the beachside favourites such as teepee tents, pergolas, beanbags, deck chairs, and the aforementioned pier. Whichever you choose, you’d be guaranteed a laid back experience with the sound of the waves and scent of sea breeze.

Next Level serves a variety of cocktails, mocktails, shakes, and - of course - coffee. If you’re looking for the best of both worlds, their rum-infused iced coffee is definitely worth a try! Food-wise, the menu consists of local and western favourites, snacks, and rice bowls.

A DJ or band also performs most nights, changing the atmosphere from a lazy day on the beach to an upbeat but chill seaside lounge vibe. During the day, horse-riding and ATV activities are available while you wait for your food.
