For years, the fastest way to get to Johor Bahru was either by plane, or by driving yourself. But with the launch of the Electric Train Service (ETS) to Johor Bahru on December 12th 2025, that’s finally changed.
You can now enjoy a faster, smoother, and far more comfortable rail journey all the way from KL Sentral to JB Sentral on an electric train, with seamless connectivity to Batam through Berjaya Waterfront.
So if you’re planning a trip south (or back up north), here’s everything you need to know about the new ETS service.

On average, tickets from KL Sentral to JB Sentral cost an average of RM70 each way with ETS Gold. Prices can fluctuate based on timing and surge pricing, so you can get tickets for as low as RM60 if your travel schedule is flexible.
You can also travel from any ETS station in Malaysia, although pricing and train frequency will vary.
For the time being, two services are available:
ETS Platinum trains are slightly pricier, but offer free refreshments and a faster travel time - arriving about 20 minutes sooner than ETS Gold.
If you are a senior citizen, student, or Person With Disabilities, you may be eligible for discounted prices as well.

In a one-sentence summary, it’s very similar to being on a plane, except you only need to be there 30 minutes before departure.
The ETS trains have features that will keep you connected and comfortable throughout your journey. The seats are spacious, with a folding footrest for added comfort. Each seat also comes with a 3-pin plug + USB socket to keep your devices charged up, and a folding tray if you need to whip out the laptop. Both ETS Gold and Platinum also provide on-board wifi.
One thing to keep in mind is that luggage storage is limited, so you may want to take that into consideration when packing.
All trains have on-board toilets, prayer rooms, and a dining car.
