Malaysians go to Batam and Bintan for the beaches, seafood, and a chance to unwind. But not every holiday has to be about beach clubs, cafés, and massages.
Sometimes, you just want to get that rush - to do something where muddy clothes, sore muscles, and a few bumps and scratches are more fulfilling than that photo of a cocktail framed by a golden sunset.
Thankfully, Batam and Bintan have plenty to offer thrill seekers too. Whether you’re chasing speed, mud or controlled chaos, here are some of the best adrenaline-fuelled activities to try.
1. Go full Mad Max with ATVs and Dirt Karts (Batam)

If those smooth touristy ATV rides don’t scratch that itch, you can go full-on Mad Max at Batam Adventure Park.
This isn’t a ride through paddy field potholes. Here, you’ll tackle deep jungle trails, splash through muddy puddles and bounce over uneven terrain. For an even bigger mess, try the Dirt Carts. These stripped-back, open-chassis karts sit low to the ground and rumble through obstacle courses, sending dirt, dust, and mud flying in every direction as you drift around corners.
The park provides rain gear and boots, but fair warning: the mud almost always finds a way in. Wear clothes you’re completely prepared to sacrifice to the cause. Because, if you aren’t covered in mud by the end of the day, you’re not doing it right.
2. Zip around on a high-speed Go-Kart (Batam)

Golden City in Bengkong is the place for high-octane activities as well as trendy bars and cafes. At the centre of all of this is the Golden City Go-Kart Circuit with its full speed karts.
For experienced drivers, the pro karts and track feature a mix of tight hairpin bends and long straights that’ll put both your skills and nerves to the test. In a group, this is the ultimate battle for bragging rights.
3. Skim across the water at full speed on a wakeboard (Batam)

If you prefer your adrenaline on water, Waterfront City’s cable ski park offers a different kind of thrill.
Instead of being pulled by a speedboat, you’ll be towed continuously by an overhead cable system. The constant speed lets you focus entirely on balancing, carving across the water, and - if you’re brave enough - attempting jumps over ramps and obstacles.
It’s an excellent full-body workout, and a few spectacular wipeouts are part of the experience.
4. Conquer a 10km jungle ATV expedition (Bintan)

ATV riding in Bintan is a completely different experience than in Batam.
Here, the main attractions are long-distance jungle expeditions that stretch up to 10 kilometres through dense rainforest. Along the way, you’ll weave between towering trees, climb steep dirt hills, splash through streams and descend slippery slopes that demand equal parts courage and throttle control.
If you’re really up for an adrenaline rush, experienced riders will tell you the best time to go is after a downpour. The muddy trails become even more unpredictable… and considerably more exciting.
5. Live out your FPS fantasies with tactical airsoft (Bintan)

Sometimes adrenaline isn’t about speed - it’s about knowing someone is about to pop out from behind the next barricade. It’s about slow, quiet, tactical precision.
Or it could be a full on charge with all guns blazing, but those never turn out well.
Adventure centres in Bintan offer tactical airsoft games where you can compete in military-style skirmishes in teams using realistic replica firearms. The equipment has a satisfying weight to it, it’s more realistic than paintball, and every match quickly turns into a game of strategy, teamwork and split-second decision making.
The only time your heart won’t be racing? On the ferry ride there.

Batam and Bintan may be famous for helping people unwind, but as you’ve seen, they’re just as good at getting your pulse racing. Whether you’re drifting around a Go-Kart circuit, charging through muddy jungle trails or trying not to wipe out on a wakeboard, there’s no shortage of adventures waiting just across the sea.
